Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)

Eye Care that’s there for you when you need it the most.

Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)

Refractive lens exchange is often a better option than Laser Refractive surgery for people with presbyopia (farsightedness). Refractive lens exchange (RLE) replaces your eye's natural clear lens with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) with the aim to achieve a sharper focus, which reduces your need for reading glasses.

Refractive lens exchange typically is for people with Presbyopia.

The procedure for refractive lens exchange is almost identical to cataract surgery. The difference being that the lens being replaced is not a standard lens.

Different IOLs are available to replace your natural lens:

Monofocal IOLs.

These lenses provide clear vision at distance, intermediate or near ranges — but not all three at once.
(Toric IOLs to correct astigmatism also are classified as monofocal IOLs).

Multifocal IOLs.

This lens provides clear vision at varying distances.

Accommodating IOLs.

This is a type of lens that provides focus at multiple distances by shifting its position in the eye.

IOLs are tailored to the patient and I will conduct a thorough examination and diagnostics to design the right patient treatment plan for you. I will recommend an IOL that is most suitable for your individual needs.
