Asbestos management

Asbestos is the biggest cause of work-related deaths in the UK but can still be found in many commercial buildings, even though it has been banned for many years.

All building owners, managers or individuals with an interest in non-domestic property must comply with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006.

Any 'duty holder' will need to identify and manage, on an ongoing, pro-active basis, any asbestos containing materials (ACM) within their buildings. This starts with an asbestos survey and extends to preparing and maintaining an asbestos management plan.

Dutyholders must only appoint competent persons or organisations to perform asbestos surveys and the Health & Safety Executive strongly recommends the use of accredited or certified surveyors.

How William Martin can help

We can perform the two types of survey required:

Management survey - this locates the presence of any suspected ACMs which could be damaged or disturbed during the normal occupancy of a property.

Refurbishment or demolition survey - which is an intrusive survey performed before any refurbishment of demolition work. it aims to locate all ACMs within the work area.

We can also help you update your asbestos management plans using mobile and web-based technology often as part of updating stock condition surveys and asset management plans.
